About Us - Giving a chance to needy children to realise their full potential
Sponsor A Child is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political organisation. It is affiliated to the Mauritius Council of Social Service (MACOSS) and has been in existence as a registered body since 2005 (Regd. no 8952).
We are a benevolent organization which provides help to poor children through sponsorship and donations. Our sponsors are individuals or organisations committed to financially support the educational needs of such children in schools, colleges, orphanages and other welfare institutions.
Our Objectives
a. To identify deprived children with educational needs within the above-mentioned institutions
b. To provide additional financial aid received from sponsors to the needy children in order to help them attain their educational objectives
Needy Children
They are around 7 to 18 years and require financial help to cater for the following:
a. Vocational training and examination fees
b. Books, tools and equipment for educational and training purposes
c. Health care not available in Government institutions
d. Private tuition where necessary
e. Other issues warranting assistance with regard to their education
The Sponsors
Our sponsors include local firms, individuals or groups of individuals, Mauritians and foreigners living abroad, and voluntary organisations both local and international
Management
The implementation programme of our objectives is run by the Management Committee of Sponsor A Child, the tasks of which include:
a. Indentifying sponsors and deserving children, and matching sponsors to the children
b. Acting as intermediary between the institutions and the sponsors
c. Monitoring the educational progress of the assisted children and obtaining reports on results obtained. Sponsors are apprised of the reports.
d. Evaluation of progress reports and decision on appropriate actions to be taken on a case by case basis
To ensure the sustainability of its programme Sponsor A Child needs to continually raise funds to cater for administrative and day-to-day running costs, which are managed separately from sponsorship funds
Around 100 children from deprived families living throughout the island, including Rodrigues and Agalega, have been sponsored as at October 2009.
Flag Day
Our Flag Day is on 18, 19 and 20 November. We rely on your generous donation.
